Medicare Open Enrollment is only a few days away, beginning October 15th.   This means it's time for employers to distribute their Medicare Part D Notice of Creditable or Non-Creditable Coverage.  Employers offering a group medical plan must distribute this notice to employees, annually, before October 15th. Although this is the time the Medicare Part D notice receives the most attention, the notice is required to be delivered throughout the year to employees in case of the following events: Prior to the effective date of coverage for any Medicare eligible individual who enrolls in an employer group medical plan

  • When the prescription drug coverage terminates
  • In the event the prescription drug coverage changes, which can cause the creditability status to change
  • Upon request from the plan participant
Employers may include this notice in new hire enrollment materials, open enrollment materials, and/or distribute the single notice on an annual basis.  However you decide to distribute the notice, it is important to maintain documentation showing the distribution process. Before distributing the notice, it is recommended that you download the most recent version of the notice from the CMS website.  The Medicare Part D notice is available in English and Spanish.
